City of Palm Bay Offering Zero Percent Interest Loans

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The City of Palm Bay is offering a zero percent interest, 5-10 year deferred payment loan of up to $25,000.
Funds are to be used by homeowners to pay for one-time total disabled home modification costs.
The purpose of the home modification program is to provide increased accessibility to the low to moderate-income disabled and newly disabled in their own homes.
The program is being administered for the city by Community Housing Initiative, Inc. (CHI) a not-for-profit agency which will provide technical assistance to qualified/disabled low and moderate-income single-family homeowners of Palm Bay.
Modification work is performed in order to bring the home up to building codes and ADA standards as established by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Eligible improvements include all work necessary to enhance handicap accessibility and the installation of all devices which meet minimum ADA standards.
Typical repairs eligible under the owner-occupied disabled home modification program include but are not limited to lowered light switches and thermostats, handicap accessible toilets, grab bars, transfer poles, ramps, handrails, chair lifts, widened doorways, electronic doors, roll under counter space and alert systems for persons with sensory disabilities.
Preference will be provided for low to moderate income disabled veterans and the severely disabled with consideration also based upon economic need.
Community Development Block Grant funds available through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), make the City of Palm Bay’s disabled home modification program possible.
