BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida’s golfers hold a 13-stroke lead after 36 holes on day one of the Florida Tech Panther Invitational at Duran Golf Club in Viera.

Eastern Florida shot 283-289 = 572 to 296-289=585 for Florida Tech and 295 – 291 = 586 for Johnson & Wales.

Northwood university is at 589; Florida Tech’s B team at 595; Palm Beach Atlantic at 608; Embry Riddle Aeronautical University at 611 and Johnson & Wales B team at 615.

Eastern Florida is the only JUCO team competing.

Individually Peter French of Johnson & Wales leads at 72 – 66 = 138. EFSC’s Michael DeMorat is second at 67 – 73 = 140.

Also scoring for Eastern Florida were Kerry Sweeney, 73 – 72 = 145; Drew Cooke, 73 – 72 = 145 and Alex Blue, 73 – 72 = 145, all three tied for fifth; and Dalton Bartlett, 70 – 76 = 146, tied for ninth.

Play concludes with 18 holes beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

“We played well both rounds and adapted to the conditions very well,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jamie Howell.

“The course played slow in the morning due to heavy fog and dew then played fast and bouncy when it dried out in the afternoon.”

“Having all five players in the top 10 speaks of good play from one and all and we will need to do the same again tomorrow as both Florida Tech and Johnson & Wales are capable of putting up a low number,” said Howell.
