Yagoh Kubagawa Named SSC Swimmer of the Week

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Tech freshman Yagoh Kubagawa has been named the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week, announced Monday.

Kubagawa was instrumental in the Panther men’s narrow 103-102 victory over No. 3 Nova Southeastern on Saturday at the Panther Aquatic Center.

The freshman touched first and shattered the school-record in the 1,650-yard freestyle with an NCAA “B” Cut time of 15:34.53, nearly 17 seconds quicker than the previous fastest time.

The native Brazilian also won the 500-yard freestyle, coming in at 4:36.27.

Kubagawa is FIT’s first male swimmer of the week this season and just the second Panther overall to receive the honor this year.

Dar Raz was selected SSC Female Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 10, 2014.

With the regular season wrapped up, FIT is in preparation for the SSC Championships, scheduled for Feb. 19-22 in Orlando.
