BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Lindsay Brown 5K Winter Blast Run/Walk will take place in Rockledge on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, starting at 8 a.m.

Packet pick-up will be located at the bus loop at Rockledge High School at 6:45 a.m. on the morning of the race. Onsite registration is also available.

This event is held to remember Lindsay Brown and to continue to support her commitment to developing student leaders.

Lindsay, who graduated in 2006, was a student athlete at Rockledge High School. She attended the United States Air Force Academy and was a sophomore member of the Women’s Swim Team.

Lindsay was tragically killed in a car accident on Dec. 21, 2007, while she was at home for Christmas break. She was 19 years old at the time of her death.

As a Student at Rockledge High, Lindsay both participated in the 5K Winter Blast Run/Walk and also provided support to the participants to garner hours toward Community Service and the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.

She wrote about her experience supporting the run while attending a Community Service Course at BCC.

Her report spoke of her enjoyment in the community service aspect of the run more than actually participating in the event herself.

The 5K Winter Blast began in 2000 but was renamed in 2012 to honor Lindsay. Proceeds from this event benefit the Rockledge High Key Club, which is part of the Kiwanis Family.

An international, student-led organization, Key Club provides its members with opportunities to perform service, build character and develop leadership skills.

It is the largest student organization of its kind.

Formed in 2011, the Rockledge Key Club was recently named the number one club in their division, which includes all clubs in Brevard County.

The race will begin on Rockledge Ave. near the high school.

The majority of the course will be run on Rockledge Dr.

There’s nothing quite like an early morning run/walk along the scenic Indian River.
