Police Charge Woman With Arson, Attempted Murder

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Mitzi Lynn Martinez, 50, was arrested by Palm Bay police and charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of arson and one count of throwing a fire bomb in relation to an incident last Thursday.

According to the arrest affidavit, Martinez and the victims, Barry Allen and David Smith, were drinking beer at Martinez’s home in Palm Bay.

Martinez gave $15 to Smith to buy more beer, according to the arrest affidavit.

Martinez then got into an argument with Allen, and the two men, who are both homeless, then took the beer to a tent were they are staying in near the 4700 block of Dixie Highway in Palm Bay, according to police. (See map below)

Martinez admitted to lighting a piece of material on fire inside a coke bottle filled with lighter fluid, and rolling it into the men’s tent.

The victims, who were asleep, woke up and fled the tent.

Martinez, who was arrested on Friday, was taken to the Brevard County Jail.
