BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Young Harris registered four early runs off of Rachel Pence and Florida Tech failed to take advantage of scoring chances as the Mountain Lions defeated the Panthers 4-0 on the final day of the EC Tritons Spring Invitational on Sunday.

After a scoreless first, the Mountain Lions jumped on Pence early, tagging the sophomore for a pair in the second on a Lindsay Tudor home run and adding another two runs on a couple of doubles in the third.

The Panthers certainly had their chances, advancing runners into scoring position in the first, third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings but failed to make the final play and bring the runs home.

Taylor Smith replaced Pence to start the fourth inning and held Young Harris in check, surrendering just three hits and not letting the Mountain Lions’ lead widen.

Sarah Hayes was also 2-for-3 batting while both Brigit Godfrey and Elaine Brown went 2-for-4.

The season will continue for FIT at the Columbus State Tournament Feb. 13-15 in Columbus, Georgia.

The Panthers will meet Young Harris an additional two times at the tournament and will also play host Columbus State, Georgia College and Montevallo.
