BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Tech sophomore Rachel Pence has been named the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday.

Pence registered a pair of wins over Webber International on opening day, giving up just one run on Sunday at Nancy Bottge Field in Melbourne.

The sophomore got the start in game one of the doubleheader and for all intents and purposes shut down the Warriors.

The Jacksonville native went the distance in the 9-1 five-inning win for the Panthers, giving up just a single run and four hits while striking out eight batters.

Pence came on in relief in game two after the Warriors tied the game with a three-run home run. Despite Webber International having seized momentum, she slammed the door shut, helping the Panthers to a 7-6 victory.
