BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A US Navy photographer got quite the shot, when a rainbow appeared over an aircraft carrier in the Pacific Ocean.

Photographer Ignacio Perez photographed the 115,000 ton, 1,100-foot-long USS John C. Stennis.

The rainbow appeared at the end of a 5K run on the ship.

Is it the best picture photographer Ignacio Perez has ever taken?

“I honestly don’t like to rank my photos because I think every image is important, but it is definitely unique,” said Perez.

“As a photographer I am used to documenting operational events like aircraft launches and recoveries,” said Perez, a 21-year-old mass communications specialist third class.

“But when I saw the rainbow I was excited because it was different. I knew the odds of the ship passing near another rainbow were pretty slim.”

Perez is also a Navy award winner by taking home the Russell Egnor Navy Media Award honorable mention for photography – operational documentation – back in 2013.
