BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Viera Hawks (19-2-0) are headed to the Class 4A State Finals tomorrow at noon. The Hawks defeated Navarre 2-0 Friday afternoon at Eastern Florida State College’s campus and await the winner of the Pembrook Pines versus Venice matchup, played later today.
Viera set the tempo of the game early and with only 10 minutes into the game a Kassidy Mills goal was all the Hawks needed on the day.
The Hawks added another goal in the second half at the 45th minute mark, off of a Hope Leonard dagger to seal the victory and clinch a berth into the finals.
Viera outshot Navarre 11-6 and only needed 3 saves by Sydney Lau on the day.
“The biggest part of the game for us, was winning those 50-50 balls especially with the wind,” said Head Coach Courtney Lundy.
“For tomorrow, it’s just about the girls taking care of their muscles and to comeback with the same gameplan and mentality with a will to win.”
The Hawks are only a game away from winning the state championship and this year has exceeded their own expectations on the year.
“It’s always a goal to win state, you always want to win state but our ultimate goal was to win districts so this is pretty exciting,” said Lundy.
