A Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputy shot and killed an armed suspect in the area of Aurora St. in Cocoa on Monday night at about 9:30 p.m.

According to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, the suspect was going through the neighborhood shooting into homes and cars.

One of the first deputies on the scene was fired on by the suspect while the deputy was still seated in his patrol car. The deputy was able to exit his car, take cover and return fire, killing the suspect.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is on the scene performing an investigation in parallel with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department.

Armed Suspect Shot By Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputy

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in an officer-involved shooting in the area of Aurora St. in Cocoa.

According to Cpl. Dave Jacobs, Public Information Officer and Media Relations Liaison for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the original call was related to an individual discharging a firearm in a residential area.

“A deputy responded and confronted the suspect, who immediately discharged his firearm at the deputy,” said Cpl. Jacobs in a release.

“The deputy addressed the deadly threat by returning fire, striking the armed suspect. The suspect has been transported in critical condition for medical attention.”
