Madd Jacks Grill Voted #1 For BBQ In Brevard County

ABOVE VIDEO: Madd Jack’s Grillin’ Shack founder Robby O’Connor tells WESH news how he turned the former location of Fat Boy’s BBQ into one of Brevard County’s most popular restaurants. Earlier this month, O’Connor was killed in a motorcycle accident, but his family decided to keep the restaurant open.

BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA — Madd Jacks Grillin’ Shack in Cape Canaveral received the most Space Coast Daily reader votes as the favorite barbecue restaurant in Brevard County.

Rather than submitting an editorial board’s list, we went straight to our readers and asked them to list their top BBQ restaurants in Brevard County.

With nearly 50 percent of nearly 400 votes cast, Madd Jacks received more votes than most of the other entries combined.

Below is a list of the top finalists for favorite BBQ in Brevard:

1. Madd Jack’s Grillin’ Shack –  Cape Canaveral (Near North Border of Cocoa Beach)

Madd Jack’s BBQ won first place by a landslide, receiving more votes than any other two restaurants combined.

Tragically, O’Connor passed away in a motorcycle earlier this month. In honor of his memory, the family opened the doors for business to carry on Robby’s legacy.

2. Kelly’s Smokin’ BBQ – Port St. John

Owner Kelly Hopkins learned the tricks of the trade while he worked for Inky’s BBQ Steak House for 10 years. Located off U.S. 1 in Port St. John, Kelly starts prepping its slow cooked meats each morning at 5 a.m.

3. Slow & Low BBQ – Cocoa Beach (Original) & Viera

During the past decade, Slow & Low emerged as one of the most popular BBQ restaurants on the Space Coast. Below is the founder’s story, straight from slowandlowbarbeque.com:

“We wanted to open a restaurant for a long time but were seriously looking for about a year. We finally found the perfect location (Alma’s Italian restaurant that had been in business for 40 years)..We feel that a restaurant not only has to put the best possible product but also have impeccable service and we stand behind that one hundred percent. 4.  Memaw’s BBQ  – Indian Harbour Beach & Palm Bay

Memaw’s BBQ in Palm Bay boasts a unique flavor and appearance the founders credit to a 40-year old recipe. Meemaw’s dips its meats into a secret basting sauce then slow cook over an open pit of hickory and oak. The heat of the pit is controlled by spraying fire with water.
