Melbourne Police Arrest Man After Attack On His Grandmother

Charged with 1 Count of Aggravated Battery on Elderly older than 65, 1 of Count Grand Theft Auto, 1 Count of Felony DV-Strangulation and 2 Counts Grand Theft of less than $5,000

Melbourne police arrested 18-year old Jacob Appel who allegedly attacked his grandmother and attempted to strangle her, according Melbourne police.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police arrested 18-year old Jacob Appel for allegedly attacking his grandmother and attempting to strangle her, according Melbourne police.

The attack left the grandmother bruised, bleeding and lying on the kitchen floor. She was then transported to area hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

According to Melbourne investigators, Appel was allowed to spend the night by his grandparents, as he had no known address.

The grandmother was in the kitchen when Appel grabbed her from behind applying a choke hold and choking her until she was unconscious then threw her to the ground.

Appel then stole his grandmother’s car and debit/credit card and fled the scene in a 2014 Honda.

Police were able to contact Appel at New Haven Ave/South Harbor City Blvd where the 2014 Honda he was driving was involved in a crash.

Appel was arrested and booked  into the Brevard County jail.
