Florida Tech Aims To Improve Their Marks At UCF Twilight

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech track & field has six individuals traveling to Orlando, Florida on Thursday, April 30 to participate in the UCF Twilight.

Freshman Austin Taft, sophomore Nathan Knox and junior Rhoni Gavagni will represent FIT in the field events, while freshmen Rachel Tobin, Alexis Santiago and Maia Carter will compete in the track events.

The Panthers are coming off a good showing in their first-ever appearance at the Peach Belt Conference Track & Field Championships on April 16-18 in Montevallo, Alabama.

The men’s track & field team finished in seventh place with a total of 59 points in the championship, while the women’s team finished eighth with 44 points. Several Panthers impressed in their first opportunity at the conference championships.

Austin Taft placed second overall in both the men’s hammer throw (49.80 meters) and the men’s discus throw (42.27 meters).

Knox finished second in the men’s javelin throw (50.50 meters) and fifth in the shot put (12.59 meters).

Rachel Tobin continued her strong freshman season with a second place finish in both the women’s 100 meter dash (12.04) and 200 meter dash finals (24.67).

This is the first of three final warmups before the Panthers head into the NCAA Championships on May 21-23.

Florida Tech begins the meet with the field events, starting with the men’s hammer throw at 9:30 a.m. ET. The Panthers kick off the running events at 6:15 p.m. ET with the women’s 100 meter hurdles.
