A 56-year-old man drowned in Sykes Creek in Merritt Island while fishing on Thursday, according to Cpl. Dave Jacobs, Brevard County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer and Media Relations Liaison.

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – A 56-year-old man drowned in Sykes Creek in Merritt Island while fishing on Thursday, according to Cpl. Dave Jacobs, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer and Media Relations Liaison.

According to Jacobs, the circumstances are being investigated, but the incident appears accidental.

The victim was transported to the Brevard County Medical Examiners Office where an autopsy will be scheduled.

The identity of the victim has not been released and more details will be provided as they become available.
