BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Brevard County’s own Space Coast Crew has added more hardware to their collection over the last two weekends, capturing the Brevard Cup and achieving record results at the Florida State Sweep Championships held in Sarasota’s Nathan Benderson Park.

On April 18 Space Coast Crew battled crews from Melbourne High School, Sebastian River High School, St. Edwards and Vero Beach High School for the Brevard Cup at Canal-54 in Fellsmere.

Space Coast Crew captured the Men’s, Women’s and Team Cups for an unprecedented third year in a row.

Over the April 25-26 weekend SCC also achieved record results for the club at the Florida State Sweep Championships.

Rowers eligible to compete in the Florida State Sweep Championships are members of the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association (FSRA) – comprised of forty-five (45) schools and clubs.

FSRA Crews from around the state race a 1500 meter course during the two day event.

The races at this year’s event included; Women’s and Men’s Freshman, Junior & Varsity races.

The rowers of Space Coast Crew had an exceptional showing at the Florida State Sweep Championships attaining the following results:

Women’s Freshman 4 – State Champions
Coxswain: Chole DeSantis, Morgan Wilson, Christine Fossenier, Marissa Scalise and Sydney Novak

Women’s Varsity 8- 6th in the State
Coxswain: Tess Landis, Emma Compagnoni, Victoria Black, Tifanny deZayas, Maya Grimm, Danielle Kammerer, Claire Goffinet, Molly Compagnoni, Katrina Pichardo

Men’s 1st Varsity 8 – 11th in State
Coxswain: Zachary Rahner, Andrew Poloski, Gordon Wiles, Connor Watson, Braden Schopke, Weston Aruta, Weston Hall, Jack Baney, Chase Young

Men’s 2nd Varsity 8 – 6th in the State
Coxswain: Sean Markham, Andrew Nagawiecki, Eddie Devlin, Nick Baney, Richard Murlin, Noah Jayne, Tanner Matthews, Jackson Hall, Jake Bursk

Men’s 3rd Varsity 8 – 4th in the State
Coxswain: Samir Abdalla, Robert Del Castillo, Jacob LaJeunesse, Hunter Kempf, Jason Bersani, Hunter McKee, Micheal Fagan, Michael Pickering, Jack NeSmith

Men’s 1st Varsity 4- 15th in the State
Coxswain: AJ DeSantis, Nabeel Imami, Anthony Cerasale, Clark NeSmith, Kevin Fee

Men’s Junior 4 – 11th in the State
Coxswain: AJ DeSantis, Greg Fichtorn, Ben Olsson, Max Kohlstedt, Marcus Kammerer

SPACE-COAST-CREWThe success achieved by SCC at the Brevard Cup and Florida State Sweep Championships adds to the exceptional results achieved at Florida State Sculling Championships earlier this month.

On May 9 SCC will travel to Gainesville, GA to compete in the US Rowing Southeast Youth Championships for a chance to move on to Nationals in June.
