BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida State College’s men’s basketball head coach Jeremy Shulman has announced his first recruit for the 2015-2016 season guard Kareem Brewton from Snellville, Georgia.
A graduate of Shiloh High, the 6-foot, 3-inch, 205-pound Brewton was a first-team All-Region and All-County selection as well as a Georgia Class 6A Honorable Mention All-State honoree.
He averaged 19.6 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game
Shulman sees Brewton as a playmaker and lock down defender who also can really score.
“We are ecstatic about Kareem joining the Eastern Florida family,” Shulman said.
“Kareem is one of the top guards in talent-rich Georgia, and will be an outstanding player here at Eastern Florida. His character, toughness, and work ethic make him a perfect fit with what we do here.
“Kareem is a big, strong, versatile guard who can play all three guard spots. And even as a younger player, we are going to expect leadership from Kareem. We definitely expect big things early from Kareem.”
Men’s basketball tied the school record for victories in a season in 2014-2015, finishing 29-5. It extended its Titan Field House winning streak to 47 games and gave Shulman his 100th victory as a Titan.
The Titans also were FCSAA Southern Conference champions for the third straight season, NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Tournament finalists for the second time in three seasons and qualified for the NJCAA Men’s Division I National Championship for the first time since 2001, losing in the first round.
Evelyn Sagner Joins Eastern Florida’s Women’s Basketball Program
Port St. Lucie’s Evelyn Sagner has signed to play women’s basketball at Eastern Florida State College.
Sagner, a 6-foot guard/forward averaged 8.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in her senior year at Treasure Coast High and was a 41 percent three-point shooter who helped lead Treasure Coast to a Class 8A state runner up finish in 2014.
“Evey is a versatile player who can really stretch the defense with her size and shooting ability,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jim Grimes.
“She will be a great fit in our system, and we think she is going to do very well here. Coach (Roger) Dorio did a great job at Treasure Coast, so I know that Evey will be well prepared to play at this level.”
Sagner joins St. Petersburg’s Zoi Thompson of Northeast High as a Titans signee.
Last season Eastern Florida finished 22-8, winning its first Southern Conference title since 2002 and reaching the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Tournament for the first time since 2002.
