Local Celebrities Ready To Strut Their Stuff For Needy

Dancing For the Space Coast, a unique competition and fundraising event that will benefit three worthy organizations on the Space Coast, will be held at Florida Tech’s Clemente Center on Saturday, June 6.

brevard-public-safety-charity-250-1Dancing For the Space Coast will benefit the Brevard Public Safety Charity, who has earmarked the proceeds this year to be distributed to the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, the Scott Center For Autism and Serene Harbor.

This exciting event will feature 12 Space Coast community and business leaders, including Amy Boyson, Lila Buescher, William Capote, Katie Jacobus, Robert Jordan, Charlie Nash, Jackie Pantello, Rita Pritchett, Susan Vallette, Mason Williams and Milo Zonka.

BRAGGING RIGHTS ON THE LINE

Each celebrity dancer will be matched up with a professional dancer as they compete in a ballroom dance – and for bragging rights as the best dancer in Brevard.

On the evening of June 6, each dance pair will compete in a choreographed ballroom dance that will be scored by a panel of judges.

During the show, couples will earn scores based on several technical skill factors, but the judges’ scores alone don’t decide the dancer’s final score.

Leading up to the actual performance, the dancers will have already scored 60 percent of their points through their fundraising endeavors.

DANCER PROFILE: Milo Zonka

Milo Zonka is the least likely competitor on Dancing with the Space Coast, having been born into a family of klutzes and gaining mastery of awkwardness at an early age.

A native of Chicago and a lifelong Cubs fan, Milo is used to being the underdog!

Currently working as the Senior Director of Finance & Administration for the Brevard County Property Appraiser, Dana Blickley, Milo has had an eclectic career, working previously in airline operations, financial management and government affairs.

He was a member of the Palm Bay City Council from 2007-2010 and has served on a number of boards and committees related to government and community over the years.

He is a graduate of Florida Institute of Technology, is a licensed commercial pilot and aircraft dispatcher and is a Certified Financial Planner designee.

In his spare time away from work, in addition to being a pest to his teenage children, Milo is working on a Master’s Degree at the University of Central Florida, serving as the Chairman of LEAD Brevard and Treasurer for the Brevard County Field of Dreams, as well as several other commitments.

He was named as one of the “100 Most Powerful” by Space Coast Business in 2010 and as a “Go-To Guy” by the Florida Today in 2012, but he’d prefer to be known as a guy who works hard, enjoys a good laugh, who gives back and wants to see a better, stronger community for us all — and who didn’t break any vital bones or organs while Dancing for the Space Coast.
