Panther Softball Off To Alabama For First NCAA Regionals Appearance

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech softball is set to take part in the first NCAA Regionals in program history, slated for Friday through Sunday in Florence, Alabama.
The Panthers’ opponent in the opening round, North Alabama, is the host of the double elimination tournament.
FIT and the Lions will square off on Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
The winner of that game will play the winner of Rollins and Tampa on Saturday, while the losers of each contest will face off on Saturday in an elimination game.
FIT finished the regular season at 35-17, including a 14-10 record in Sunshine State Conference play. The Panthers’ body of work earned them the sixth seed in the region.
The Panthers are led by four players who were named to the All-SSC Team on Wednesday.
Center fielder Elaine Brown and designated player Nicole Miller brought home first team honors, while shortstop Brigit Godfrey and pitcher Rachel Pence were named second team and honorable mention, respectively.
The Lions garnered the third seed in the South Region after a season in which they tallied a 35-12 record including a 17-9 mark in the Gulf South Conference.
The UNA offense is spearheaded by catcher/designated player Brittany Gillison, who’s .357 average is the highest on the team among regular starters. Gillison recorded 36 RBIs and 22 runs scored while launching six home runs.
In the circle, the Lions often turn to Hillary Carpenter and her 1.11 ERA.
Carpenter earned a 19-6 record during the season with 19 complete games and 102 strikeouts.
