BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The School Board of Brevard Public Schools, in a 4-1 vote, selected Dr. Desmond Blackburn as their final candidate to lead the 73,000 student school district.

Since 20102, Blackburn has served as the chief school accountability officer for the School Board of Broward County, Florida. He has also served as an area superintendent, area director for school improvement and secondary principal for Broward County.

In addition to his experiences in Broward County, Blackburn served as an adjunct professor for Florida Atlantic University and is the CEO/President for D&G Leadership, Inc.

Today’s vote reflects a selection of a final candidate for the superintendent role,” said Brevard County School Board Chairperson Amy Kneessy.

This allows the School Board the opportunity to begin contract negotiations with Dr. Blackburn. In a previous School Board decision, a salary not to exceed $225,000 was approved.

“We had the highest quality of candidates apply to lead our district and our selection today reflects characteristics we were seeking in our next superintendent,” said Kneessy.

“I am truly pleased with Dr. Blackburn and look forward to the work we will complete on behalf of the students of Brevard County.”
