Eastern Florida State’s Nene Johnson Earns All-Star Weekend Invitation

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida rising sophomore Nene Johnson will participate in the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association 2015 NJCAA All-Star Weekend July 23-26 at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville.

The 5-foot, 8-inch Johnson, Eastern Florida’s point guard and All-Southern Conference first team selection for the 2014-2015 season, will join 39 other players from around the country at the event.

Johnson, from Stuart, Florida and Martin County High, was Eastern Florida’s third leading scorer averaging 11.1 points per game. She recorded a team-high 3.6 assists per game and was second in steals at 1.4. Playing in all 30 games, she shot 45.7 percent from the floor, second best on the team.

Players will participate in position workouts and team practices; attend the NJCAA Hall of Fame Banquet and compete in games.

“Nene is well deserving of this honor,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jim Grimes.

“She has made so many strides as a player and a person since arriving here last fall. For her to be chosen as one of only 40 kids to participate in the great event is a tremendous accomplishment.”

Last season Eastern Florida’s women’s team finished 22-8, winning its first Southern Conference title since 2002 and reaching the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Tournament for the first time since 2002.
