Melbourne Police Arrest Hit-and-Run Suspect, Charged With DUI

The Melbourne Police Department responded on Sunday at about 7 p.m. to a pedestrian that was struck by a motor vehicle in the area of 1100 N. Wickham Road.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department responded on Sunday at about 7 p.m. to a pedestrian that was struck by a motor vehicle in the area of 1100 N. Wickham Road.

According to police, a witness that observed the crash called the police while following the vehicle as it left the area without stopping to render aid.

The vehicle was followed to the area of Croton Road and Sarno Road where a marked Melbourne police vehicle attempted to stop it. It refused to stop, fleeing west on Sarno Road where it eventually became stuck in traffic congestion.

According to police, the driver was arrested and later identified as Shyla M. Rollins and was found to be intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of .25.

The victim was transported to the Wuestoff Hospital with minor injuries.

Rollins was charged with Fleeing/Eluding, DUI with injury, Leaving the scene of a crash with injury, Reckless driving, Resisting Arrest without Violence.
