One shark was killed when a semi truck transporting five sharks from Marathon, Florida to Coney Island, New York crashed on Wednesday at about 2:20 p.m. on I-95.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA – One shark was killed when a semi truck transporting five sharks from Marathon, Florida to Coney Island, New York crashed on Wednesday at about 2:20 p.m. on I-95.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the truck was carrying the sharks in aquariums located in the trailer and traveling northbound on I-95 when the vehicle suffered a right front tire tread separation, causing the truck to travel into the median and come to rest in the tree line.

The trailer is owned by Dynasty Marine Transportation, Inc.

According to FHP, the sharks will be moved to another semi truck and transported to the aquarium. There was no word on the size of the sharks.
