ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA — Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher will take center stage this Sunday when the Tampa Bay Rays host the Baltimore Orioles at 1:10 p.m. at Tropicana Field.

The Seminoles’ sixth-year coach will throw out the honorary first pitch to start the game at 12:55 p.m. as part of the “Chop at the Trop” Florida State Day promotion.

The inaugural “Chop at the Trop” featured FSU baseball coach Mike Martin throwing the honorary first pitch in 2013, while legendary football coach Bobby Bowden made a pregame appearance and was welcomed by a raucous crowd in 2014.

Fisher has compiled a 58-11 record in his first five years as a head coach, winning at an ACC-record 84.1 percent clip.

He led the Seminoles to a perfect 14-0 record and the national championship in 2013 before taking FSU to the first College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Rose Bowl in 2014.

Fisher is an avid baseball fan who can often be seen cheering for the Seminoles at Dick Howser Stadium each spring.

First-year Rays manager Kevin Cash played baseball for the Seminoles from 1997-99, grabbing All-ACC honors and leading FSU to the 1999 College World Series.
