The State of Florida Tournament for 11/12 Softball got underway in the 4-team Pool A Friday night at Rockledge’s McKnight Family Sports Complex where Section 7 Champions, Keystone LL, met Section 1 Champions, Niceville.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The State of Florida Tournament for 11/12 Softball got underway in the 4-team Pool A Friday night at Rockledge’s McKnight Family Sports Complex where Section 7 Champions, Keystone LL, met Section 1 Champions, Niceville.

 

Maddie Keyes help lead Keystone to a 12-0 victory in 4 innings while Stephanie Brennan was the winning pitcher.

The other 11/12 game pitted Section 3’s Rockledge LL against Section 2’s Palm Bay Fastpitch.

For Palm Bay, Saige Cox had a double. Rockledge’s Ellie Cofer went 2-for-4 at the plate while Kylah Berry pitched the entire game with 6 strikeouts while Rockledge won 14-3 in 5 innings.

Over at Port St. John’s Space Coast Communities Sports Complex, the Junior Baseball Tournament started with 4 games on the night. Pool A’s first game was between Section 1, Niceville LL and Section 7 Palma Ceia LL.

For Niceville, Derek Vogel launched a 3 RBI home run while Corey Church had a double and Derek Vogel added a 4th RBI to his night at the plate. But Palma Ceia’s Jacob Sadlowski had a 2RBI homer while Donovan Bell, Keaton Humphrey and Koby Fogg each added doubles to lead them to a 14-7 victory in 7 innings.

Pool A’s second game saw Section 2’s West Boynton Beach LL meet Section 3’s Arlington LL. Boynton Beach’s Patrick Laurelli had a 2-RBI homer while Seamus Kirk had a single and a double.

But, Arlington’s pitchers combined for 8 strikeouts and 3 walks in their 9-4 win in 6 1/2 innings.

Meanwhile, in Pool B’s early game, Section 5 Champions, St. Cloud LL, defeated Section 8 Champs, North Springs LL, 2-1 in a nail-biting 7 innings. North Springs’ lone run was scored by Corbin Tsistinas while St. Cloud’s Jacob Larkins had a double and scored 1 run.

Later in Pool B, Section 6 Champions, South Fort Myers LL, battled Section 4 Champions, Land O’ Lakes LL for 6 1/2 innings.

Land O’ Lakes’ Brett Gwinn went 2-3 at the plate while Bryson Carroll threw 10 strikeouts in their 3-0 win.

NOTE: District 22 would like to say a BIG thank you to all the volunteers who worked to get the rain-drenched fields ready for Friday night’s games at Rockledge and Port St. John. If not for their hard work, this report would be a lot shorter.
