Melbourne PD: Palm Bay Woman Arrested After Allegedly Killing Her Mother With Knife

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police were called to a residence on Wednesday night in Melbourne after Lisa Gaye Leikvold allegedly killed her mother, Laverne Hoffman, with a large kitchen knife, according to Melbourne Police Commander Dan Lynch.

At around 11 p.m., Melbourne Police Officers responded to a residence on Harbor View Drive after a 911 call was received stating that a murder had just taken place.

There was a witness on scene who called the Melbourne Police Department to report the incident to 911 dispatchers.

The initial reports stated the victim was found lying on her back in her bedroom with a large kitchen knife in her chest, according to Commander Lynch.

Leikvold was found on an adjacent couch inside the house when officers arrived. The suspect did not resist and cooperated with the officers, according to Commander Lynch.

Leikvold, who is from Palm Bay, is the daughter of Laverne Hoffman.

The initial investigation is pointing to ongoing family strife as the motivation behind the murder, according to police.
