Officer remains hospitalized from his injuries

ABOVE VIDEO: This dash camera video from Officer William Anderson’s patrol car shows the moments early Monday on July 13, 2015, when he was run over by a suspect fleeing a traffic stop. A citizen blocked Officer Anderson’s body as he laid in the road after he was run over, and according to Orlando police, his actions prevented Officer Anderson from being struck by another vehicle.  Officer Anderson remains hospitalized from his injuries.

POLICE INCIDENT REPORT: On July 13, 2015, at approximately 2:43 a.m., an Orlando Police Officer was working extra duty at the McDonald’s located at 5400 S. Kirkman Road.

The officer conducted a traffic stop at Kirkman Road and Vineland Street on a silver four door vehicle. As the officer approached the vehicle, the passenger door opened and the passenger fled on foot.

The officer attempted to stop the passenger by moving around the vehicle. As the officer moved, the driver accelerated towards the officer and ran the officer over.

After striking the officer, the driver continued to flee the scene without stopping.  The officer did fire his weapon.

The driver and passenger are both still at large and police do not have a suspect description.
