ORLANDO, FLORIDA (UCFKnights.com) – For the second straight season, UCF junior William Stanback (Hempstead, N.Y.) grabbed a spot on the Doak Walker Award Watch List on Thursday. The trophy is handed out to the nation’s top running back.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name 10 semifinalists on Nov. 18 with the three finalists being announced Nov. 24.

The recipient of the award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards Dec. 10 on ESPN.

Stanback arrived at UCF in 2013, immediately displaying his athleticism both as a rusher behind eventual NFL Draft pick Storm Johnson, and as a special teams contributor.

No. 28 would be voted on to the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team (Johnson was on the First Team) as a true freshman thanks to 443 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He also had 15 receptions for 186 yards and a score.

On special teams, he posted 11 kickoff returns for 218 yards and forced a fumble that ultimately helped UCF defeat Memphis.

Stanback climbed on to the All-American Athletic Conference First Team in 2014, accumulating 697 yards on 189 carries with 10 touchdowns. Through the air, he delivered 11 catches for 55 yards and two touchdowns.

A graduate of Uniondale High School, he recorded his first career 100-yard rushing game against Bethune-Cookman (104), and ultimately had three 100-yard games a year ago.

As a Knight, Stanback has 1,140 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground.
