Jupiter’s Three-Run Homer Lifts Hammerheads Over Brevard Manatees For Doubleheader Split

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Brian Anderson’s first-inning, three-run home run led the Jupiter Hammerheads (14-23, 49-58 overall) to a 4-2 victory over the Brevard County Manatees (15-19, 44-59 overall) in game two of Saturday night’s doubleheader at Roger Dean Stadium.

Yefri Perez led off the bottom of the first inning with a double down the left field line against Brevard County starter Zach Hirsch. Two batters later, Austin Dean drove home Perez with an RBI single to center field. After an Avery Romero single, Anderson smacked a three-run home run over the left field wall. It was his ninth homer of the season.

Zach Hirsch (1-2, 4.24 ERA) settled down after the four-run first. He pitched a six-inning complete game. Hirsch surrendered four runs on eight hits.

The Manatees plated a pair of runs in the sixth. With one out, Paul Eshleman reached on a fielding error by right fielder Austin Dean. Steven Halcomb then singled to left field.

With two men on, Angel Ortega doubled on a liner to left. Eshleman scored to put the Manatees on the board. After C.J. Robinson replaced starter Chipper Smith, Omar Garcia singled to the opposite field and scored Halcomb.

After Garcia was caught stealing, Chris McFarland lined out to right to end the threat.

Smith (2-3, 4.66 ERA) earned the win. He allowed two runs – just one earned – on seven hits. He struck out six. Robinson recorded the final five outs to earn his second save of the season.

Halcomb and Ortega each had two hits in the loss.

The Manatees will look for a series split in the finale tomorrow afternoon. LHP Wei-Chung Wang (7-3, 3.99 ERA) will toe the rubber for Brevard County. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
