Palm Bay Police Dispatcher Arrested For Sex Crimes Against 11-Year-Old Boy

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – A Palm Bay police department telecommunicator is facing charges involving felony sex crimes for an unlawful relationship with an 11-year-old boy.

Amanda Chandler, 40, was arrested Monday night on a warrant for eight counts of capital sexual battery and five counts of lewd and lascivious molestation, according to Palm Bay Police Department spokesperson Yvonne Martinez.

She is currently hospitalized, once medically cleared, she will be taken to the Brevard County Jail where she will be held without bond.

On August 1st officers responded to a Melbourne hospital after receiving information from a relative who reported that Chandler had attempted suicide, according to Martinez.

Further investigation revealed an inappropriate sexual relationship with an 11-year-old boy Chandler had befriended.

“It is believed the relationship may have begun in February or March and involved physical intimacy on numerous occasions,” said Martinez.

Chandler was employed with the department for approximately three years.

Chief Mark Renkens has begun the process to terminate her employment with the department. She is currently suspended without pay pending further action.
