Woman Attacked By Alligator In Wekiva River, Loses Arm Below Shoulder

FWC workers captured two alligators

UPDATE: Wekiva Island officials report FWC caught the gator responsible for the attack. The gator was destroyed by FWC.

SEMINOLE COUNTY • LONGWOOD, FLORIDA — The Florida Fish and Wildlife reported that a woman was attacked by an alligator while she was swimming in the Wekiva River Saturday afternoon at about 3:30 p.m.

According to authorities, the woman lost part of her arm just below the shoulder and also received wounds to her torso and back.

The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, FWC workers went back to the pond and captured two alligators: One 11 feet long, and the other 8 feet, 10 inches.
