City of Palm Bay To Add 108 Light Poles, Will Increase Public Safety Along US 1

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The City of Palm Bay, in conjunction with the Florida Department of Transportation and Bayfront Community Redevelopment Agency began construction this week on the installation of 108 light polls that will run along US 1 from Palm Bay Road to Malabar Road.

The project is expected to take several months and residents are advised to use caution in the construction area as crews move to install the heavy concrete bases.

This project is part of an effort to improve lighting along US 1 in support of public safety for both drivers and pedestrians.

This is the second phase of the US 1 Beautification project. A $906,757 Federal Highway Safety Grant was obtained for this phase of the beautification project along with a $108,811 grant form the Florida Department of Transportation for Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) for the project.

The project consists of 108 total street lights, and 28 of the streetlights around the bay area from Kirkland Road to Ridge Road will have decorative lights.
