BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Wednesday’s game at Saint Leo (4-2-1, 2-0 SSC) will be an early test for a Florida Tech Panthers (4-2, 1-1 SSC) squad eager to rebound from a 2-0 loss in their last road contest at then No. 1 Barry.

Since that defeat on Sept. 16, head coach Dustin Smith and Co. opened their home schedule last Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Eckerd. Keira McCarthy scored the first goal of the game and her team-leading sixth of the season in the 21st minute. Mary Watson then knocked in her third goal of her collegiate career to pad the Panthers’ lead.

The Tritons made the game interesting with a goal in the 74th minute. However, the Panther defense tightened up and solidified the 2-1 win.

Between the two of them, Keira McCarthy and Aubri Williamson have punched in 10 of their team’s 16 goals. The only other Panther to score more than one goal is true freshman Lina Sundelin, who has two. Goalkeeper Julia Kantor has recorded two shutouts and surrendered just six goals, while playing all six games thus far.

Saint Leo is back on the winning track after losing two straight to Christian Brothers and West Alabama on Sep. 11 and Sept. 13. The Lions have since shutout Eckerd by a 2-0 score and beat Lynn 3-1.

Genevieve Gignac and Arielle Kabangu lead the Lions’ offensive attack having scored 11 of their team’s 17 goals.
