Florida Tech’s Running Back Antwuan Haynes Honored As GSC’s Freshman of the Week

Haynes-Florida-Tech-580-4BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech true freshman running back Antwuan Haynes has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week for Week 3, announced on Monday.

It is the first conference player of the week award this season for the Panthers and first since quarterback Mark Cato was received the same honor for Week 11 of 2014.

The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native busted out for 107 yards on nine carries for an 11.9 yard per carry average in FIT’s 37-0 victory over Warner Saturday night at Florida Tech Panther Stadium.

Haynes extended the Panther lead to 28-0 early in the fourth quarter with a 32-yard touchdown dash.

West Georgia quarterback Dallas Dickey was named the GSC Offensive Player of the Week, while Shorter linebacker Zach Butts secured the defensive award. Additionally, UWG returner Marcus Sayles received the conference special teams player of the week honor.

The Panthers open Gulf South Conference play on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET with a trip to Florence, Alabama for a battle with defending GSC co-champion No. 10 North Alabama.
