BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast has announced a call for nominations for the Thomas E. Gamble Excellence in Education for Economic Development award.

As Past President of Brevard Community College, which is now Eastern Florida State College, Gamble devoted his educational career to serving undergraduates from all levels and walks of life while embracing the open door philosophy.

At Brevard Community College he was instrumental in the development of the aerospace technology program, a national center of excellence of the National Science Foundation, a variety of curricular and technology enhancements, as well as significant physical enhancements at all of the college’s five campuses.

Gamble was also a champion for the expansion of partnerships with the University of Central Florida in Brevard County to improve upper division and graduate level offerings.

In memory of this exceptional educational leader, the EDC created the Thomas E. Gamble Excellence in Education Award for Economic Development.

This honor will be presented to the chosen individual on October 21, at the EDC’s Annual Meeting. Among the past recipients are Dr. Katherine Cobb, Dr. Al Kohler and Dr. Richard DiPatri.

Members of the community are invited to submit nominations on behalf of someone who has made a long standing, consistent and highly valued contributions to further education missions through community efforts on the Space Coast.
