BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Off to a hot start with two road victories to begin the season, a pair of Florida Tech Panthers cleaned up on some Sunshine State Conference hardware on Tuesday.

Sweeping both league awards, forward Adin Kavara was named Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate Mitch Thorn reeled in the league’s defensive honor.

Picking up where he left off as a sophomore, Kavara spearheaded an impressive offensive attack that combined to score six goals over the weekend. After recording 12 goals a year ago, the Oslo, Norway native converted his first two of the season in just 41 minutes of action in the Panthers’ 5-1 rout of Union (Tenn.).

Kavara has now totaled eight goals in three career season openers. Two days later, Kavara followed up his performance with the game-winner in a tight 1-0 contest against a Mississippi College club that finished 2014 with a record of 12-6-2.

A three-year starter, Thorn collected six saves this week, including four in the Panthers’ first shutout this fall.

Through two matches, the keeper has permitted just one goal to jump out to an early SSC lead in goals against average (.500) and save percentage (.857). Thorn earned Second Team All-SSC recognition in 2014.

Florida Tech will be off this week before returning to the pitch Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. ET in a road matchup with Flagler.
