Delaney Goins might only be 11-years-old, but she’s an old pro when it comes to volunteering.

The sixth-grader at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School says her “amazing” school has taught her all about caring for others and not just herself: “My teachers are all huge inspirations and educate us in our prayer life and our schooling.”

Besides placing third in this year’s District Spelling Bee, Delaney also recently participated in St. Baldrick’s, an event in which participants shave their heads to raise money for children’s cancer research.

The always smiling pre-teen said her pediatrician inspired her to shave her long dark hair to raise money for the St. Baldrick’s effort and she did so because she admires the bravery it takes for children to face cancer.

Saying she’s just another kid who loves to play lacrosse and golf, she points to her parents as inspirations to give to others. Delaney adds she wouldn’t be the person she is today without their guidance and love. “They have taught me to be kind to everyone and to accept others for who they are.”

LOVES LEARNING

Volunteering is so important to her because it’s a way for her to meet people from all walks of life and see new places. When Delaney is not busy volunteering, you will find her hard at work learning, another love in her life.

“Really, I’m just another kid,” she said.

Just another kid who hopes to grow up helping others and making a difference.
