BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – On November 5, the City of Palm Bay Fire Rescue, in partnership with the Palm Bay Firefighter’s Community Benevolent will sponsor 40 ultrasound screenings on a first come, first serve basis.

Each year, the organization raises money through t-shirt sales towards the fight against breast cancer.

This year, the Benevolent is using funds from the 2015 t-shirt sales to provide ultrasound screenings to 40 local women through Her-Scan.

The Her-Scan Mobile Medical Teams will be setup at the Palm Bay City Hall Community room between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

“We are directly helping local women,” said Palm Bay Fire Rescue Lieutenant Cheryl Parente.

“Of those 40 women being scanned [on November 5, 2015], the odds are that at least one will have cancer, and without Her-Scan they may have never known.”

Her-Scan Ultra Sound screenings include an ultra sound of both breasts and under the arms, the radiologist reading, radiology results and the U.S. postage to mail the tests directly to the patient. Typically, screen results are sent to patients with-in 10-12 days.

“If your mother or sister currently has or had breast cancer we are asking you to sign-up immediately.” Parente said.

“It is not a matter of age, but a hereditary risk.”

Palm Bay Firefighter’s Benevolent will continue to accept donations towards the fight against breast cancer.
