BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Basketball fans are in for an evening of entertainment and giveaways at Eastern Florida’s Titan Madness on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
The annual basketball tip-off event begins 30 minutes after the conclusion of Eastern Florida’s 6 p.m. Sophomore Night volleyball match against Broward College at the Titan Field House on the Melbourne Campus.
Admission to both events is free.
The evening will start with the introduction of Eastern Florida’s defending Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference champion men’s and women’s basketball teams, and 2015 conference Coaches of the Year men’s head coach Jeremy Shulman and women’s head coach Jim Grimes.
That will be followed by skills challenges involving current men’s and women’s players, program legends and athletes from Eastern Florida’s other sports teams.
Following will be:
The popular three-point challenge matching four women and four men.
A 20-minute running clock scrimmage featuring mixed men’s and women’s teams coached by men’s assistant Reggie Freeman and women’s assistant Olivia Atwell.
The always-exciting dunk contest in which competitors must make dunks that include participation by athletes from other sports.
The evening also will include events for fan participation: a free throw for a T-shirt; a three-point shot for practice gear; and a half-court shot courtesy of Marco’s Pizza where two fans who register through Marco’s outlets have a chance to win Marco’s Pizza for a year.
Participating in the skills challenge from the men’s team are sophomores Zavier Peart, Djordje Beronja and Will Gibson; freshman C.J. Jackson; and legends Freeman, the third all-time leading scorer at the University of Texas and a former European pro, and Eastern Florida men’s assistant Anthony Jackson.
Participating for the women will be sophomores Nene Johnson, Crystal Townsend, Brittany Wells and Jovana Vukovic and legends Atwell and assistant coach Mckenzie Brisson.
Taking part in the three-point contest will be men’s freshmen Keoni Wallington, Jon Martin, Joey Martin and Austin Awad.
For the women will be sophomores Paola Vasquez, Emma Grimes, Chelsea Long and freshman Chardonay Aldrich.
Jessica Doyle, now playing at Armstrong State in Savannah, Georgia, won last year’s three-point contest.
Competing in the dunk contest will be sophomore B.J. Gladden and freshmen Richard Gaines, Kareem Brewton and Jean Pierre Yana.
The dunks will be judged by EFSC women’s golf coach and accounting instructor Anne Gannon, Campus Advisor Stephanie Goins and fans Bobby Caruso, Charlotte Grimes and Evija Vilde.
