BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida’s women’s soccer team takes its consensus No. 1 national ranking on the road this weekend with two games in Illinois while the No. 3-ranked men’s soccer team travels south for a crucial Region 8 match.

The Titan women, 7-0, play Waubonsee Community College (1-7-3) at 4 p.m. Friday (Central time) in Sugar Grove and meet the College of Lake County (2-5) at 1 p.m. (Central time) Saturday in Grayslake.

The Titan men, 8-0-2, travel to Broward College’s field in Pembroke Pines for a 1 p.m. Friday match with Florida College System Activities Association/NJCAA Region 8 foe ASA Miami (0-4-1).

The teams played to a 1-1 double overtime draw in Melbourne on Sept. 27 and the Titans need a victory to stay ahead of ASA and Broward College in the three-team race for the one postseason berth.

Eastern Florida beat Broward 2-0 on Sept. 25 in Melbourne giving it four points – three for a win and one for a tie – to one for ASA and none for Broward.

Each team plays each other three times to determine which one advances. Broward plays ASA on Oct. 13, 19 and 25. Eastern Florida plays ASA for the third time on Oct. 23 on the road and plays Broward on Oct. 16 in Pembroke Pines and Oct. 30 in Melbourne.

Eastern Florida’s women have scored 20 goals in their last four matches. They are paced by freshman Paula Astiazaran who has 12 goals and 10 assists for a team-high 34 points.

Sophomore Briana Camargo has five goals and 12 assists while twin sister Abbie Camargo has five goals and six assists.

Freshman Julia Hernandez has five goals and four assists.

The Titans have 33 goals and 49 assists – good for seventh nationally – to six goals for their opposition.

Freshman goalkeeper Steff Barreras has allowed four goals in 490 minutes while recording 13 saves. Sophomore Asmara Holmes has allowed one goal in 140 minutes and has nine saves.

The Titans have outshot their opponents 146-42.

Sophomore Yannick Koffi leads the Titan men with seven goals and three assists for 17 points. Freshman J.J. Donnelly has six goals and three assists for 15 points.

Freshman Luke Ferreira has two goals and a team-high 10 assists for 14 points. Sophomore Micah Smoak has four goals and three assists for 11 points.

The Titans have scored 28 goals to nine for their opposition and have 36 assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nate Himes has allowed six goals in 470 minutes and recorded 17 saves. Classmate Kekuta Jatta has conceded three times in 459 minutes and has 20 saves. He has recorded three shutouts.

The Titans rank ninth nationally in shots with 248 and second in shots per game at 24.8.
