UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol Reports Fatal Crash On U.S. 1 In Mims, Victim Identified

The Florida Highway Patrol has identified Hayley Johnson as the 16-year old Titusville girl who was killed Tuesday evening about 7:50 p.m. when she was hit by a car on Curtis Avenue, just north of Fay Boulevard in Port St. John.

BREVARD COUNTY • MIMS, FLORIDA – The Florida Highway Patrol reported to  a scene of a fatal crash that happened about 6:49 a.m. on U.S. 1 at Huntington Avenue in Mims Wednesday morning.

The crash has been reported with one confirmed dead on scene and two patient refusals.

The deceased victim has been identified as 34-year-old, Scott Hackenberry, a resident of Mims who was driving a 2014 Dodge Pickup.

The other two individuals involved in the crash were driving a semi who had no reported injures and identified as Harold Douglas, 56, of Okeechobee, and Jay Combess, 42, of Chipley, Florida.

According to the report, the semi was traveling southbound on US 1 when it attempted to turn left onto Huntington Avenue. The 2014 Dodge Pickup was traveling northbound on US 1 when it crashed into the turning semi.

Both passengers in the semi were wearing their seat belts.

However, the driver of the pickup was not wearing a seat belt, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report.

This crash is still under investigation with possible charges pending.

FHP reports that the road was blocked for several hours to investigate the scene.
