BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA (CapitalSoup.com) – The Florida Lottery announced today a record-breaking first quarter with ticket sales exceeding $1.35 billion; breaking the previous record of $1.25 billion in fiscal year 2014 by 7.85 percent.
With more prizes and more winners than in any quarter ever before, the Florida Lottery’s first quarter transfer to the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) is expected to reach $250.45 million.
“This is an exciting accomplishment for the Florida Lottery and I want to thank our sales team for their commitment and dedication, as well as our players and retailers for their loyal support,” said Florida Lottery Interim Secretary Tom Delacenserie.
“This achievement is particularly significant in that every month of the quarter had record sales, following a record-setting annual sales year in 2014-15, proving that the Lottery remains focused on increasing sales and delivering on our mission of maximizing revenues for education funding.”
“The Lottery’s done a fantastic job of coming out with new games that get my customers’ attention and bring them into my stores,” said Steven Desautels, Senior Category Manager, Murphy USA.
“Additionally, the FL Lottery is one of the few states that allow you to begin selling all of the new games on the day they launch”. This is very important if you want to capture the sales increases that new games always provide during the first week.
Florida Lottery contributions currently represent approximately six percent of the state’s total education budget. Lottery education funds are appropriated by the Florida Legislature and then administered by the Florida Department of Education.
