BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – After an exceptional performance in Florida Tech’s 31-14 win over Mississippi College on Saturday, Florida Tech defensive lineman J.J. Sanders has been named the Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8.

Sanders was instrumental in the Panthers claiming their fourth win in a row, something that had never been done in the program’s brief three year history.

The Columbus, Ohio native ranked second among all players in total tackles in the game, registering seven stops, including three solo tackles.

Sanders’ biggest impact, though, came in the backfield. The converted defensive end tallied 2.5 tackles for loss for a total of 13 yards, including 1.5 sacks of Choctaw quarterback Walker Meadows.

Shorter running back B.J. McCoy was named the GSC Offensive Player of the Week, while West Alabama running back Tyreek Hill secured the special teams award. Additionally, Tigers quarterback Harry Satterwhite received the conference freshman of the week honor.
