BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Following exemplary performances over the past week, women’s soccer goalkeeper Julia Kantor and football running back Gary Holmes have been named Florida Tech’s Panther Student-Athletes of the Week.

Kantor may as well have been a brick wall in net for the Panthers. The senior registered two shutouts, helping the Panthers to a pair of important road victories.

The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native made four saves in FIT’s 3-0 victory at Palm Beach Atlantic and matched the performance with another four saves as the Panthers defeated Sunshine State Conference foe Lynn 1-0 in Boca Raton, Florida.

With her fourth and fifth shutouts, Kantor is tied with Barry’s Paula Forero for the conference lead.

Following her week with no goals allowed, Kantor was honored as the SSC Defensive Player of the Week.

Holmes made history in last Saturday’s 41-37 upset victory over No. 5 Delta State, returning the opening kickoff of the second half 105 yards for FIT’s first-ever kick return for a touchdown. Holmes returned two kicks for a total of 124 yards.

In addition to the historic kick return, Holmes also gave the Panthers their first lead of the game, dashing into the end zone from 11 yards out to put FIT up 10-3 late in the first quarter. In total, the redshirt-sophomore carried eight times for 39 yards. He finished the contest with a game-high 163 all-purpose yards.

For his efforts the West Palm Beach, Florida native was named the Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

Women’s soccer returns to the pitch at Rick Stottler Field for a contest against provisional SSC opponent Embry-Riddle at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday. A live stream of the action will be provided at FloridaTechSports.com/live. The game marks the Panthers’ Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
