Teams are now forming for the 7th annual Bed & Bathtub Derby Race and you can enter by simply getting some friends together and creating your bed or bath tub entry.
The rules are simple, check in with your merry team by 12 p.m on October 3 and make sure to dress BIG. There are five people per team, four pushers with one rider.
Entries will race side-by-side in single elimination heats and each team may run up to six times. Heats will be held 1-3 p.m. and the finals will be held at 3:30 pm.
The race location is Mullet Road outside Exploration Tower where you can push your creation as fast as you can, and with as much style as possible, along the road in side-by-side racing action. Winning teams will receive $500 in cash.
“The Pink Ribbon Bed & Bathtub Race is a truly unique family-friendly event that highlights fun by drawing participants and spectators from far and wide,” said Mike Schwarz, Cove Merchants Association Lifetime Board Member and owner of Fishlips Waterfront Bar & Grill.
“The event supports the local economy by bringing many new and returning faces to the Cove, giving businesses and organizations the opportunity to support the fight against cancer while promoting their brands in unique and memorable ways.”
Early in the day, participants will park their creations along lower Mullet Drive and make final preparations.
Vendors, Ninja Challenge Courses, Arts & Crafts, Shrimp Peeling contests and live performances will add to a day of fun that concludes with a wacky and entertaining awards ceremony on the main stage, where participants receive prizes and unique trophies.
Post-parade, spectators and competitors have the opportunity for last looks at their favorite Derby bed and bathtub “cars,” lined up rally-style on the historic Mullet Drive.
For the official “racers,” curious spectators, boaters, residents, tourists and everyone who enjoys fun, The Pink Ribbon Festival and Bed & Bathtub Race defines creative expression from a community that lives to celebrate its vibrant local efforts.
