Sheriff’s Agents Arrest Man For Carjacking Following Shooting Incident In Cocoa Beach

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s Agents captured an armed carjacking suspect in the area of State Road 520 and State Road 528 after a pursuit in the early hours of Friday morning, according to the Cocoa Beach police.

One of the victims were professional baseball player Brian Johnson, who is currently in the Boston Red Sox organization and made his Major League debut for the Red Sox last summer.

Johnson attended CocoaBeach Jr./Sr. High and went on to star at the University of Florida where he was a two-time All-American 2010-2012 for the Gators, and named All-Southeastern Conference three times.

He was also inducted as a member of the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.

Cocoa Beach Police CID Commander, Major Wes Mullins, provide the following account of the incident:

On Friday at approximately 2:08 a.m., officers with the Cocoa Beach Police Department responded to the 7-Eleven convenience store located at 3177 North Atlantic Avenue in Cocoa Beach in reference to a carjacking.

Further investigation revealed a subject later identified Johnathan Oshaun Gould, 31, of Orlando, Florida, brandished a firearm and ordered the victim out of his vehicle.

Prior to leaving the area in the victim’s vehicle, Gould discharged one round in a downward direction which resulted in a non-life threatening injury to the victim. The victim later refused medical attention on-scene.

A short time later, the vehicle driven by Gould was observed by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office in the area of Port Canaveral and a vehicle apprehension was initiated.

The apprehension ended in the area of State Road 520 and State Road 528 after a brief foot pursuit which resulted in Gould’s arrest.

Gould was transported to a nearby hospital for an unrelated medical condition.

Investigators with the Cocoa Beach Police Department later obtained an arrest warrant for Gould for the following charges: Carjacking, Persons Engaged in a Criminal Offense Having Weapons, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition by a Convicted Felon and Violation of Felony Probation.
