GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA (GatorZone.com) – University of Florida defensive rush end Alex McCalister was named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his role in UF’s 9-7 victory over Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon, the league announced Monday morning.

McCalister anchored the defensive unit that only allowed Vanderbilt to gain 30 yards of offensive production through the air, while also producing 3.5 tackles for a loss of 18 yards.

The Winston Salem, N.C. native helped a Gator defense that sacked Vanderbilt quarterback Johnny McCrary five times with McCalister leading the way with 2.5 of those sacks.

Next up, the Gators travel to Columbia, S.C. to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday, November 14, at 12:00 p.m. ET.

The game will be televised on ESPN.
