Four EFSC Soccer Players Earn Student-Athlete of Week Honors

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Soccer players Julia Hernandez, Paula Astiazaran, Luke Ferreira and Yannick Koffi are the Eastern Florida State College Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending Nov. 22.

Hernandez, a freshman forward from Madrid, Spain scored four goals and recorded an assist in the NJCAA Women’s Division I National Championship tournament played at the Titan Soccer Complex on the Melbourne Campus.

Her total included the game winner in overtime as Eastern Florida defeated defending national champion Monroe College 2-1 in the semifinal.

Astiazaran, a freshman midfielder from San Sebastian, Spain scored three goals and recorded an assist as Eastern Florida won its tournament opener 7-1 over Spartanburg Methodist.

Astiazaran finished the tournament with four goals and three assists as Eastern Florida recorded its second runner-up finish in four seasons.

Ferreira, a freshman forward from Deerfield Beach, Florida and American High in Delray Beach, scored both goals as Eastern Florida defeated Jefferson College 2-0 to reach the semifinal of the NJCAA Men’s Division I National Championship tournament.

Koffi, a sophomore forward from Dallas, Texas and Winfree Academy, scored two goals and recorded an assist as Eastern Florida defeated Morton College 5-1 in the tournament opener.

Eastern Florida, making its second tournament appearance in three seasons, reached the semifinal for the first time, losing 1-0 to Tyler Junior College.
