BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Brevard County’s Zack Spurlock was in for a shock when he videoed this Great White Shark on his third dive of the day while out spearing Lionfish for Grills Seafood.
Spurlock was in the water, while Grill’s owner Joe Penovich and his daughter Alli, were top-side operating the boat.
Here’s Zack’s stunning account of what happened:
I was diving in about 90 feet of water, about 25 miles southeast of Port Canaveral when I first saw the shark. It was on the bottom and slowly swimming south.
I then saw it pass by, headed north a minute later. It then passed by a third time, and after it swam out of sight, I decided it was time to head up to get the GoPro.
Joe tossed me the GoPro, and as I proceeded to make my way back to the jug and decend, the shark made a surprise appearance behind me on the surface.
I would have never seen the shark from behind if it wasn’t for my friends yelling at me to turn around!
The water was crystal clear, so it’s amazing to me how incredible these large creatures are at staying in your blind spot.
Sorry for the video quality, I was holding onto a gun, pole spear and bag with lionfish fins poking through and trying not to drop anything!
