Bill to Reduce Concealed Weapon License Fee Passes Senate Subcommittee

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam is working with the Legislature to reduce the fee to apply for or renew a concealed weapon license by $10, which would bring the application fee down from $70 to $60 and the renewal fee down from $60 to $50.
The Senate Subcommittee on General Government Appropriations today passed Senate Bill 772, which is sponsored by Senator Garrett Richter.
The House of Representatives companion bill, House Bill 641, is sponsored by Representative Jay Trumbull.
“We strive to provide exemplary service to the law-abiding, eligible applicants seeking a concealed weapon license, and reducing the application fee is just one more way we can make this process more convenient and affordable,” stated Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam.
Additionally, Commissioner Putnam worked with the Legislature in 2014 to partner with tax collectors, so they could accept applications and renewals.
To date, 20 tax collectors from the following counties have partnered with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to process concealed weapon license applications and renewals: Escambia, Walton, Hillsborough, Martin, St. Johns, Brevard, Marion, Lee, Pinellas, Pasco, Highlands, Okaloosa, Columbia, Indian River, Nassau, Hardee, Seminole, Charlotte, Citrus and Suwannee.
Consumers can still apply for or renew a concealed weapons license via mail or at one of the department’s eight regional offices in the following locations: Fort Walton, Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Orlando, Punta Gorda, Tampa, West Palm Beach and Miami-Dade.
