Cocoa Juvenile Arrested By Police For Killing His Little Sister, Charged With 2nd Degree Murder

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigating after a corpse was discovered in a body of water near Latan Circle in Barefoot Bay on Tuesday.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 15–year-old male of Cocoa in connection with the death of his 21-month old sister.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 15–year-old male of Cocoa in connection with the death of his 21-month old sister.

Members of the Homicide Unit took the teen into custody Monday evening after a court order was issued for his arrest by a judge charging him with Second Degree Murder, according to Major Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center where he is being held without bond.

According to Maj. Goodyear, the investigation began during the early morning hours of January 10, when deputies responded to a residence in Cocoa in response to a 911 call about an infant who was unresponsive.

The 21-month old victim was transported to Wuesthoff Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Emergency room doctors alerted deputies after they observed signs of trauma.

Agents with the Homicide Unit responded and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

An autopsy was conducted by the Brevard County Medical Examiner who concluded that the victim died as a result of blunt force trauma and determined the death a homicide.

The investigation revealed that the juvenile intentionally struck the victim causing the injuries that led to her death, according to Maj. Goodyear.
